The confession was just so... WRONG. I do, however, think that the 'lie' (as Naruto put it) refers to Sakura not caring about Sasuke at all. She has to (I could care less whether it's romantic or not) - he's a former teammate, a comrade... a first love!? And the way she said everything else was like slapping Naruto, the second best because Sasuke is far, far away.
After that chapter, all I had to do was immediately look for shoujo anime - a good one where female portrayal is done just as I would do I don't hate Mr. Kishimoto's style; I just assume there is a reason behind it all, one that I couldn't quite grasp at the moment. |

Got any thoughts on that?
(BEFORE I EXPLODE OUT OF MY MIND?! ) |
What confession?
I don't like any female types in Naruto. |

Ch 469, Sakura says to Naruto (translation by Binktopia, mangashare.com):
| Quote: | What I said, Naruto... is that I love you!
I'm saying there's nothing between me and Sasuke anymore!
I don't know what I was thinking, liking a person like that.
I'm confessing my feelings here, so listen up! ...
... There's no sense in continuing to like someone who's a fugitive and a criminal ...
... So Naruto, no need to keep that promise.
Won't you stop chasing Sasuke?...
... Sasuke-kun just keeps getting further from me.
But Naruto you've always stayed by my side.
You've encouraged me.
I finally realized who you really are, Naruto...
... But all Sasuke's done is commit crimes and break my heart.
More and more, he's becoming a different person than he was, so distant.
But Naruto, you're right where I can touch you like this.
You make me feel safe... |
Naruto says:
| Quote: | Give me a break, Sakura-chan.
I told you that joke's not funny... |
Sakura went on to reply:
| Quote: | Have you flipped?
I just switched from Sasuke to you.
They say the woman's heart is as changeable as the autumn sky, don't they? |
- Now, I don't know who said the original quote about a woman's heart and autumn skies but I sure know as the four seasons - despite the lack thereof in the tropics - that mine is not like that.
Anyway, in the end Naruto goes to say:
| Quote: | | I hate people who lie to themselves. |
And I take it as Sakura's view about Sasuke- being a fugitive and a criminal, etc. Surely, she of all people will not think that, aye?
I could be wrong though. |

Sakura's 'confession' was not a real confession. It was an underhanded, manipulative, way for her to convince Naruto to break his promise to bring Sasuke back for her.
Personally, I didn't like that way she went about it, but she is an adolescent who just found out that her teammate was madly in love with her and willing to go the distance to make her happy. Even if he, himself, would get the short end of the stick.
Though I may not like how she went about it, I do think this gives a whole new dynamic to the manga, and Naruto and Sakura's relationship. Sakura's not perfect, and Kishimoto has done an excellent job of illustrating this time and again.
In truth, I think Sakura does have feelings for Naruto. She's either too afraid to face them or she hasn't quite realized how deep she feels for him. _________________

At first, when she began her confession, I was really excited. But then her facial expressions were pretty suspicious, and... fake. Then, half way through I realized she was lying. All the signs were there.
Can you picture my reaction? It's beyond words.
Yeah, I was preparing to rant, but that would involve curse words, and you know what - I don't want you, my friends, and the audience to put up with my BS.
Anyway, here's my next question: What is Naruto going to do next? Will he reject her? Will he accept, despite the lies? Will he lose a mountain-load of respect for her?
What do you think?
Here's a link to a possible scenario of what's gonna happen in Ch. 470. I loved it. Made me lolz so hard.

470: The chapter rocks. Bee vs. Kisame - yay!! Go Bee
As for Sakura's confession, looks to me like she wasn't lying about her feelings (for Naruto) after all But, hey, I could be wrong.
On a side note:
I watched the anime after almost a year and although I know it's a filler (aka no relevance at all), this week's episode showed Madara fighting almost everyone in the 8 man cell except Hinata. Makes me wonder 'why is that?' |
