Scribble: The author reserves the right to modify this theory accordingly, depending on the recent events from Naruto manga and/or for purely theoretical development. Please be guided that this is only a theory and not a fact. For hmfan24. Special credits to おおそら and Tobbe, who beta-ed(?) the kanji. Important Notes: 1. This simply contains direct comparison between characters and events. Any points herein will be discussed with least prejudice as possible. In no way does this seek to prove or disprove any character or event. The truth of the story lies in Mr. Kishimoto’s hands and only in his. 2. The said comparison will use the Susanoo-Yamata no Orochi myth as its standard. Please be reminded, however, that Mr. Kishimoto has his own respectable ingenuity, hence, his own plot can diverge from it. 3. This will contain information already stated in various Sasuke x Hinata theories, done so to hopefully ease any difficulty. Author extends sincere apologies if anyone finds the redundancy inconvenient. PART ONE: A comparison between Karin and Hyuga Hinata as Kushinada-hime. Warning: Author has very limited knowledge in Japanese. There are three scripts used in Japanese language system: 1. Hiragana - basic phonetic alphabet 2. Katakana – used to write words of foreign origin 3. Kanji – Chinese characters adapted into the Japanese writing system In Naruto, some names are written in katakana whilst they are actually of Japanese origin. This is likely the creator’s choice. Note, however, that regardless of using katakana, the names have the same meaning of their hiragana equivalent. Example: Hinata. Hinata is written as ヒナタ (katakana), but takes the meaning of ひなた (hiragana), literally, “sunny place” or “in the sun”. In hiragana, a word such as “Hinata” can have more than one meaning. However, converting hiragana to kanji can help specify which is being referred to (kanji also aids to shorten phrases into compound characters without changing the meaning but pronunciation may differ). Example: Hinata. Hinata written as ひなた (hiragana) can mean “sunny place” or “in the sun”. Hinata written as 日向 (kanji, read as Hyuga) specifically means “to go towards” (向) “sun” (日). Example: Country of Fire. Hi no Kuni written as ひのくに (hiragana) can mean “Country of Fire”, “Country of Light” or “Country of Sun”, among others. Hi no Kuni written as 火の国 (kanji) specifically means “Country of Fire”. Hi : ひ  火 (fire). Theoretical assumptions: - Japanese names written in katakana have the same meaning of their hiragana equivalent. - Names written in hiragana can have multiple meanings unless written in kanji, which can help narrow down ambiguity. a. Kushinada-hime – Kojiki: 櫛名田比売 | Nihonshiki: 奇稲田姫 Her name is written in kanji, literally meaning: Kojiki: Comb (櫛) rice paddy/field (田) princess (比売) Nihonshiki: Strange/mysterious (奇) rice paddy/field (稲田) princess (姫) Karin - 香燐 Her name is written in kanji, literally meaning: incense(香) phosphorus (燐) - The kanji for Rin (燐) contains 米, which means husked grains of rice. - She presumably met Sasuke in the Country of Rice Fields where she served under Orochimaru. Hinata - ヒナタ Her name is written in katakana and takes the meaning of its hiragana equivalent: sunny place or in the sun (ひなた). Since hiragana characters can have multiple meanings, her name may mean more than usual, depending on the kanji used. - Hina may mean princess (in poetic diction) + ta (rice paddy/field) = Rice paddy/field princess. Moreover, a rather unusual* way to spell Hinata is 妃名田 which specifically means “rice paddy/field princess”. Hi: ひ  妃 (princess) , Ta: た  田 (rice /paddy/field). * Japanese names usually use two kanji instead of three. This was considered by one of the kanji beta as "theoretically, a possible spelling" and “unique but it works”. The most appropriate kanji for Hinata though is still 日向 (Hyuga, towards the sun). - Kushinada is written as 櫛名田比売 (Kojiki) or 奇稲田姫 (Nihonshiki); where, 田 (rice paddy/field) as a proper noun is actually pronounced ta. As a rule, the pronunciation of ta when preceded by a word becomes da. If said rule is disregarded, 櫛名田比売 or 奇稲田姫 may also be pronounced as Kushinata-hime. - Kushinada-hime is written as 奇稲田姫 (Nihonshiki), where 奇 means strange or mysterious. Naruto on some occasions described Hinata as strange ( 変) and dark (暗, dark or gloomy). Other possible meanings: - Hinata written as 鄙田, means “countryside rice paddy/field”. Hina: ひな :arrow 鄙 (countryside) , Ta: た  田 (rice paddy/field) When asked about Hinata’s appearance in an interview, Mr. Kishimoto said he intended to give Hinata a “provincial” look. - Hinata written as 雛田, means “rice paddy/field bird” . Hina: ひな  雛 (young bird) , Ta: た  田 (rice paddy/field) The Hyuga Clan is known to use the metaphor of birds (see also Naruto manga chapter 102). Disclaimers Naruto is a property of Kishimoto Masashi. Manga published by Shueisha. Anime produced by Studio Pierrot.

Scribble: The author reserves the right to modify this theory accordingly, depending on the recent events from Naruto manga and/or for purely theoretical development. Please be guided that this is only a theory and not a fact. Again, for hmfan24. PART TWO: A comparison between Karin and Hyuga Hinata as Kushinada-hime, continued. b. Kushinada-hime is the eighth daughter of earthly gods. Karin - Little is still known about her background except that she was the sole survivor after her village was burned down during a war. Hinata - Heir of a noble clan known to use the strongest taijutsu of Konoha - Eight Trigram Palms. Hak (八) in hakke (八卦) is synonymous to hachi (八), which means eight. - Member of Team 8 under Yuuhi Kurenai and the 8-man cell of Team Konoha under Hatake Kakashi. c. Susanoo found Kushinada-hime with her family by Hiikawa (斐伊川) / Hi no Kawa (肥河) * 斐伊川  one beautiful river? / 肥河  fertile river? Unsure about rough translation :jk Karin - no association to a river as of yet Hinata - no association to a river as of yet d. Susanoo recognized Kushinada-hime’s family as related to the sun goddess, Amaterasu. Karin - From her name, the kanji for Ka (香) contains 日, which means day or sun. - May be associated to Amaterasu via the jutsu that unintentionally burned her until she was saved by Sasuke using the Mangekyou Sharingan. Hinata - Hyuga (日向) means "towards the sun". Clan members, with some exceptions, are also known to be named after the sun, day or fire. Hinata (ひなた) means a sunny place or towards the sun. - With the aid of her Byakugan, she was the first to see the black flames of Itachi’s jutsu Amaterasu, in the last attempt to help locate Sasuke. - In manga chapter 297 where she was on the cover, the line says: "Guided by the golden light, now she steps into the sun!" Disclaimers Naruto is a property of Kishimoto Masashi. Manga published by Shueisha. Anime produced by Studio Pierrot.

Scribble: The author reserves the right to modify this theory accordingly, depending on the recent events from Naruto manga and/or for purely theoretical development. Please be guided that this is only a theory and not a fact. For hmfan24. Still. PART THREE: A comparison between Itachi's Susanoo jutsu and Sasuke's possible portrayal of the same god. Warning: Contains recent manga spoilers. a. Yamata no Orochi is an Eight-forked Gigantic Serpent Theoretical generalization: Yamata no Orochi is multi-headed and multi-tailed. Itachi versus Orochimaru (left image) - Orochimaru’s hydra form was seen as a multi-headed, multi-tailed snake. Sasuke versus Hachibi (right image) - Hachibi’s transformation is that of a uni-headed, multi-tailed ox. b. Susanoo's Goal #1: Protect Kushinada-hime. Theoretical parallelism: Protection. Itachi's Goal (left image) - Protect Sasuke by pushing the younger Uchiha to his limit until suppression of Orochimaru within him is no longer effective. Once Orochimaru shows himself, the Susanoo jutsu will seal him in eternal genjutsu. Sasuke's Goal (right image) - Capture the eight-tails’ jinchuuriki for Akatsuki. During the battle, Sasuke protected Karin from being hit by a tentacle and from his own Amaterasu which unintentionally burned her. c. Susanoo’s Goal #2: Slay Yamata no Orochi. Theoretical generalization: To 'slay' in myth may mean to 'defeat' in fiction. Itachi defeated Orochimaru (left image) - Itachi defeated Orochimaru and was able to successfully seal the latter in eternal genjutsu. Sasuke miscalculated (right image) - Sasuke overlooked a severed tentacle which was used by the eight-tails’ jinchuuriki to escape. Hachibi survived. Based on the above comparisons, it may be observed that Itachi's jutsu is more at par with the original myth while there are notable differences (even failures) in Sasuke's counterpart. However, granted that Sasuke does have the Kusanagi which he obtained from Orochimaru, he still may portray the god. It may be possible that Mr. Kishimoto have intentionally diverged his story from the original myth because it is, after all, his own plot. On the other hand, it may also be possible that what has been shown (Sasuke-versus-Hachibi) is not yet the adaptation of Susanoo-versus-Yamata no Orochi (if the myth it is to be adapted at all). There is still one character that may just portray a better Yamata no Orochi, and that is Yakushi Kabuto/Orochimaru merger. Kabuto/Orochimaru was last seen to encounter Hinata, Naruto and Yamato during the last attempt to retrieve Sasuke. Disclaimers Naruto is a property of Kishimoto Masashi. Manga published by Shueisha. Anime produced by Studio Pierrot.

Oi, July_Winter, I just noticed something... What if Karin=Amaterasu, Sasuke=Susanoo, Suigetsu=Tsukuyomi, Hinata=Kushinada-hime, and Juugo=Hachiman? It's just a little thought... I mean, since Suigetsu's name does mean something like Moon God or something...

Hikari-Hime- 11-08-2008

Oi, July_Winter, I just noticed something... What if Karin=Amaterasu, Sasuke=Susanoo, Suigetsu=Tsukuyomi, Hinata=Kushinada-hime, and Juugo=Hachiman? ... The reason why I associated the Shinto Trinity to Itachi, Tobi/Madara and Sasuke: Shinto Trinity  may be represented by the mitsu-domoe (three swirling tomoe) Sharingan  Uchiha Hence, the theory counts out non-Uchihas. Of course, I could always be wrong. ... It's just a little thought... I mean, since Suigetsu's name does mean something like Moon God or something... Suigetsu is written as 水月; where 水 means water, and 月 can mean moon, Monday or month, depending on how it is used. From what I've read, his name supposedly means "water moon". I haven't thought of how it may fit into the theories, except he symbolizes yin. does anybody have any idea whats happened to kabuto? i don't remember him dying off or anything...? i haven't seen him in any recent chapters and i'm not sure whats up with him...i think i might have just forgotten something? can any of you shed some light on my confusion? Maybe waiting for Orochimaru to take over or fighting to overcome the snake. We'll see whichever (or neither) when he is set to reappear.

Hikari-Hime- 11-09-2008

so there is a great chance that kabuto is gonna appear later in the series. i wonder what will happen? i'm also curious to how he might look now. all i know is that kabuto's return equals great chao's! i simply can't wait! :glomp i tend to glomp when i'm happy...
